Foregoing "Pounds"
(through education, utilizing rescue organizations and re-learning how to assume responsibility for our companions)
Animal Rescue Society would like to encourage you not to take your animal to a humane society unless the shelter has a strict "no-kill" policy. There is nothing "humane" about euthanizing a perfectly healthy animal. Your animal companion, who should be considered a member of the family,  does not deserve to be "turned over" to strangers and have their one and only life taken from them.....especially for trite and trivial reasons that have resulted from our own ignorance of proper care and training.

That being said; however, we do realize there are situations that befall people which are out of their control and there are a few times when their companion animal would be better off in a more loving and stable environment.

For those situations we recommend the following:

  • Placing the animal with a family member they are familiar with, if the family member is willing to help.

  • Run an ad in your local newspaper and online. Cross post to a rescue organization's Website (Excellent resource but may take a while)

  • Put notices up at your veterinarian's office and other animal-friendly establishments. Make sure you include several flattering photos and a detailed description.

  • Notify local animal rescue organizations and they will usually post a courtesy listing for you on their website. They can often act as a liaison between someone needing to re-home their animal and someone looking for that same type of animal.

  • Most importantly, always charge some kind of a "re-homing" fee to assure the animal is not going to be sold for profit.
