Toxoplasmosis
Up to 30% of women of childbearing age are immune to the parasite toxoplasmosis gondi. The other 70%, with some precautionary measures, should not have a problem.  So don't go throwing out the kitty and his/her litterbox just yet.

There seems to be a significant amount of hype when it comes to scaring pregnant women into thinking they cannot have a cat or litterbox in the house if they are pregnant. There is actually more of a chance contracting the parasite if you handle raw meat and then fail to wash your hands. Since it's a good idea to feed your cat as much raw meat as possible, just make certain you always wash your hands after handling. As someone who has done rescue for several decades, and through two pregnancies,to boot, I feel this subject has gotten more attention than it deserves.
